Powering The Future

What words come to mind when you think of Tesla? Advanced. High Performance. Sleek. Electric. Futuristic. Tesla has taken the auto market by storm and released 3 cutting-edge car models, but that’s not all they’re offering these days. A little over a year ago, the company released the Powerwall and Powerpack, which retrieve energy from solar panels and store it for on demand use. The Powerwall is the smaller battery of the two, yet still is able to provide enough energy to power an entire home. This stylish, rechargeable lithium-ion home battery is charged using electricity received from solar panels. An individual Powerwall can hold up to 6.4kWh of energy, enough to provide a home with energy throughout the evening. But if you’re interested in more storage, the company makes it simple. Up to 9 Powerwalls can be connected together in order to collect more electricity. Doing so would allow a home to be powered off the utility grid entirely, meaning the batteries are able to collect enough solar energy to fulfill the total energy demands of your home. Not only does it function well, but it also looks incredibly visually pleasing.

The storage of the electricity is great, since you are able to access the solar energy even when the sun isn’t available. Electricity is reserved for whenever you decide to put it in use. The Powerwall also helps prevent power outages since it offers a backup energy supply.


The Powerpack is similar to the Powerwall, but on a much larger scale. Each Powerpack has 16 individual battery pods within it, allowing for plenty of energy storage. It is also infinitely scalable, which means that it is possible to connect as many Powerpacks together to provide enough energy to any building, no matter how large the electric demand. In fact, 900 million Powerpacks would provide the world with enough solar energy to take everyone off the grid. Could you imagine? No longer needing to use non-solar electricity. This is where the future could be headed.

Even from an outsider’s perspective, it is clear that Tesla keeps the customer is mind. With both battery devices there is simple installation, full integration, and a completely stunning look. They are compact and able to build on themselves extremely easily. Expert engineers were the driving force behind the creation of this new technology.

So what will a Powerwall set you back? You can expect to spend $3,500 for the Powerwall to be installed, you’ll have to take into account that extensive electrical wiring is required along with the power inverter and power switch. However, the savings you could incur in the future are sure to be great, allowing you to live completely off the power grid. The question is, are you ready to make the move?
