Below are 5 tips for increased productivity, pair these tips with your VAIO and you’re sure to increase your productivity.

1. You’ve Got to Stop Multitasking

Multitasking- a concept we swear makes us more productive, is actually doing more harm than good. Studies have shown that people who try to do two or more things at once become distracted more quickly and thus the quality of their work suffers. Take your time, focus on one project, complete it and move on to the next one.

2. Designate

Start by designating time, time to check emails, time to have those 5 minute syncs with your team, even time to go get coffee. Once you’re done designating your time start to limit it. According to Parkinson’s law- “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion”. Typically it looks something like this- you still have a week to finish a project, so you’ll take the entire week to complete the project working right up until the last minute. You have no choice but to work as hard as you can. This makes for a stressful environment and can really destroy productivity. Moving forward try limiting your time to the lowest amount you think is realistic to complete the project.

3. Delegate

Next up, you’ve got to learn to delegate. Relinquishing control can be a healthy habit to get into, it shows your team members you trust them and allows you expand upon your leadership role. Delegating doesn’t have to mean you walk away from a project, provide team members with the resources they’ll need to make the assignment a success and don’t hover. This is your moment to get other things done.

4. Learn to Say No

No matter where you are in your career, saying no can be very intimidating, but there’s no use in agreeing to projects you know you won’t be able to deliver on. The power that resides in this simple word may actually do more good than you think. Most believe that saying no will lead coworkers into thinking you’re not a team player or have a lazy outlook on work; however owning the fact that you’re too busy to do a quality job shows you care about the well being of your client, firm, company etc. and that you’re diligent in producing the best work.

5. Start Using the 2 Minute Rule

Entrepreneur, Steve Olenski recommends implementing the “two-minute rule” in an effort to make the most of those smalls windows of time. Here’s the idea: if you find a task that you know can be done in two minutes or less, you should take care of it immediately. According to Olenski, completing the task right away actually takes less time than having to go back and take care of it later.
